That means home games are often overrun with opposing fans and the team has to get a little smarter with its marketing to ensure both a purple and a full Ryan Field. Even Pat Fitzgerald recently admitted he hopes people at least pick Northwestern as their second team and opt to come to Ryan Field every Saturday for home games. Northwestern is undoubtedly a national school.
It has its tentacles everywhere. When their school comes to their neck of the woods, they should be able to represent -- the eventual Wildcats trips to College Park, Md.
Reddit's College Football subreddit did some polling to create a county-by-county map of college football fandom. It is quite the visual. And Northwestern does pop up as the favored team in several counties. Yes, that is a little purple island in the sea of Notre Dame gold in Northeast Illinois.
So the Wildcats may indeed be Chicago's Big Ten team according to this poll and this map. Look a little further east though and there is another little pocket of Northwestern popularity in Vermont amid Wisconsin of all teams. That might just be polling error, but it is certainly an interesting trend and an interesting location for Northwestern.
Northwestern's map reveals most of the fan base does center in the Chicagoland area, but there are big pockets of Northwestern fans throughout the country. That is a lot of spread across the Midwest and Big Ten country, and then a heavy concentration in Texas and the Los Angeles area and the Northeast. There is a solid block of purple along the Great Lakes area.

Fullstack Web Development Bootcamp. Fullstack Web Development Boot Camp. Valuable experience. Not you? I'm in the homestretch of the Northwestern University Evanston campus part-time, 24 week bootcamp. I had originally signed up to help round out my graphic design skills, as many positions wanted some type of web development experience from updating a wordpress site all the way up to SQL database maintenance.
What I got from the course was so much more than that. I've equated it to learning to speak Chinese in that you're learning one language, but also several dialects that go along with it.
It's not an easy feat. The instructors and support are excellent and very knowledgable and enthusiastic. Many will go above and beyond when asked for assistance, be that in person or via Slack. Those elements aside, this is a very worthwhile course. Know going in there will be a lot of work and a large time dedication and what you get out of the class is what you put into it.
